Aerotech Edge 540
I attended the JR Challenge
in Punta Gorda, Florida in March of 2004. Aerotech
announced that they would hold an open house in
their new building for the attendees of the JR
Challenge. I was very interested in seeing a manufacturer
of model planes.
I arrived at Aerotech
and opened the door to new and exciting opportunities.
At first I didn't know what to think but soon
was in amazement over the work that John Sharpless
and company were producing. First thing, My eye
caught a glimse of a train trussel that I stood
in amazement over the quality of craftsmanship
it would take to put together only to find out
that John had laid all of these parts out and
cut them on his laser cutter.
Very nice airplanes
and lots of little gadgets (like dash panels)
were all around the room and once a person realized
that all of these things were made by Aerotech,
you soon realize that this is a great place to
learn lots of things. On to the next room, where
the laser cutter was set up. I had never seen
any kind of large laser in my life. Now I knew
about hobby lasers but compared to this one, they
were very hobby lasers. John spent lots of time
explaining this machine answering all of our questions.
The answers we got was from a man that knows this
machine and how to operate it very well. His knowledge
clearly stands out when a person talks to him.
About a Month or so
later after visiting Aerotech, John called me
with a new project that he was building for the
Joe Nall. It was a 42% Edge 540. From the pictures,
John give me his design which was made by Mike
Badger from Aero3d and we made the design.
John came to the Nall,
and I tell you, I was surprised at the outcome
of the airplane. It looked good, it flew good
and I would be proud to have it in my hanger.
The pictures just does not do it justice. Below
you will find some close ups of the graphics but
remember these turned out great. I'm happy to
be associated with John and Aerotech and we are
planning another project for the Tucson Shootout.

Thanks John for the
business and hope that you are as proud of your
airplane as we are. It is a pleasure working with
you.
Please make sure you
stop by John website and check out his whole line
of airplanes and all the neat stuff! Aerotech
Thank you again,
Stan
